A famous destination among locals and tourists since the 193o’s, LA’s world famous Original Farmers Market is home to some of the worlds sweetest shops. From Bennett’s Ice Cream, to Bob’s Coffee & Doughnuts, Dylan’s Candy Bar, Du-Par’s Pie Shop, T&Y Bakery, Zia Valentina, Pinkberry, and Magic Nut and Candy Company, these savory shops have inspired fashion designs among LA’s clothing designers.
Last Fall, the Market hosted a fashion week event with a candy themed costume contest, on Thursday, September 22, 2016. Designers showcased costumes and fashion creations inspired by different eras and uniquely made of candy, sponsored by Dylan’s Candy Bar, the winners were featured in the Metropolitan Fashion Week Closing Gala Fashion Awards at Warner Bros. Studios.
This Winter, Specialty Costume and Wedding Dress Designer Evey, known for her sparkling fiber optic and LED light up wedding gowns, and Barbara Ashley, designer of the lavish couture collection Yuki Muli, drew inspiration for their collaborative project Too Too Yummy, at the sweet shops in the market. Evey studied ice cream dripping down the sides of cones at Scott Bennetts award winning ice cream shop, in order to create her yummy ice cream cone shoes, and ice cream tea party dress, while Barbara perused the colorful and sugar coated aisles of Dylan’s Candy Bar, where she got inspiration on how to create the show stopping appeal and sugary frosted covered effect on their wearable eye candy and sweet inspired tutu and petticoat collection. Fatally Feminine Designs created an incredible pink donut and candy covered necklace, Coco Coquette sent decadent wigs, and hair stylist Krystal X Kaos was inspired to create a candy covered wig for this project, made of cotton candy and Jelly Beans!
Premiere international traveling makeup artist and licensed hair stylist, Cindy Sterling joined forces with rockstar celebrity hair stylist and makeup artist Krystal X Kaos, to bring the sweet fashion to life on models Milanya Maria and Nora Mershel.
